Masters of Storytelling

Last week, the most important event in the golf world was held again in Augusta, Georgia. The Masters Tournament fandom transcends golf, though. As the “Superbowl” of the sport, there are many Masters fans who don’t even follow golf much. That’s because the green jacket-clad members at Augusta National have built a brand that is more of a cultural phenomenon than just a sporting event.

Everything the Masters does is intentional. Their actions all serve a purpose to enhance the brand of the tournament. No detail goes overlooked in this effort. They also tell incredible stories.

If you follow any of the Masters social media accounts, you’ll discover one of the best-run content machines in the world. Through their channels, they celebrate all of the minutiae that make their fan experience so exceptional. From the pimento cheese sandwiches to the annual champions dinner, the par 3 contest to the green jacket ceremony on Sunday, they are relentless in sharing their brand story – a tradition unlike any other.

The Masters’ ability to tell stories through everything they do is largely unequaled. However, you can study their ways and mimic their commitment to brand storytelling. Imagine the fanbase you could create if you achieved just a fraction of their success.

Keep the main thing the main thing…

Successful brands focus on the intersection of what they are best at and what is most profitable. So many companies get lost chasing opportunities outside of that zone. Any business owner should dream of being known for doing one thing greatly and at a profit. The more you keep your focus on products and services that are also profitable, the more customers will embrace your brand. If you struggle with this, it may be time to reevaluate your offerings. Figure out what you’re best at and how to make money doing it and you’ll be on the path to building a great brand and a growing business.

A Story We Told

Building Game Changers with the First Tee Tallahassee

Last week, we debuted a new commercial for our friends at First Tee Tallahassee. This 30-second ad ran during the Masters broadcast and will run in various golf programs during the rest of the year. The objective of the ad is to raise awareness and funding for the work they do teaching life skills to youth through golf. We are thrilled to be helping First Tee achieve that objective through storytelling.
